Jennifer Kay
Principal & Founder
Jennifer Kay is the principal and founder of Deep Tech Go to Market. Throughout her nearly 20-year career, she has consistently created go to market for brands and products that exceeded expectations or drove business forward in unexpected ways.
Her super skill is the ability to translate highly technical concepts into consumer-friendly language. She can speak to an aerospace engineer as easily as to a CEO or to an end customer because she knows how to ask the right questions and hear what’s unsaid in order to uncover addressable pain points.
During an early journalism career in New York City, Jen learned from some of the world’s best magazine editors how to distill a complex value proposition into a succinct message tailored to a specific audience. She spent a decade honing this skill, working in demand generation roles at magazine and TV brands such as Good Housekeeping, Men’s Health, Prevention, truTV and more.
She gained international business and marketing experience while working in Berlin, Germany as a growth executive for a venture-backed startup. In this role she drew on her background in product positioning and taught her team the importance of being obsessively focused on customer problems in order to create solutions that matter, as measured by time to product-market fit.
Most recently she ran sales and marketing for Adaptive Energy, a solid oxide fuel cell company acquired by Edge Autonomy, where she brought the highly complex technology to market and drove global demand for the niche product suite.
As the first market-facing executive in Adaptive Energy's history, Jen cultivated a network of UAV OEMs along with aerospace and defense companies around the world and grew the pipeline for the fuel cell subcomponent from $5M to $200M in less than six months.
She laid the groundwork for this success by partnering with the fuel cell Engineering team on day one to create a go to market strategy that established a highly compelling, defensible value proposition rooted in customers' pain points related to energy, paired with values-driven and highly targeted OEM customer personas.
Being in market with the fuel cell and working directly with aerospace engineers, Jen had exposure to the Warfighter’s needs – which ignited her passion for accelerating commercial adoption of dual-use technology. Now, arming the Warfighter with the very best that American exceptionalism has to offer is all she can think about.
A native Tennessean who grew up with the music of Willie, Loretta, Dolly and all the rest, Jen lives in Nashville with her husband, two young kids and one very fine pair of Luccheses. IYKYK.
